RAA is an agency for democratic school development and intercultural projects - and the European coordinator for Yeff!

The RAA aims to encourage people from deprived and minority backgrounds to become empowered members of society and to prevent discrimination by initiating social projects.

Since its foundation in 1991, the RAA Berlin has been working on inclusion and cultural diversity through job creation, arts and the new media as well as promoting tools of cultural expression and exchange. Some of the projects the RAA Berlin provides, are:
School clubs and other school projects around Berlin with special regard to communities with social problems and high level of (racist) violence (e.g. Lichtenberg, Kreuzberg, Hellersdorf, Marzahn, Prenzlauer Berg).

Our objectives are the participation of youth and establish democratic structures in schools through community education/community development, education for enterprise (pupils businesses), violence prevention and intercultural learning. Empowerment and support in self-organisation of minority communities, e.g. by counselling Jewish refugees from the former USSR, by establishing own businesses for the Vietnamese population from North Vietnam or the Sinto-Union and the Equal-Project to strengthen economic opportunities for Roma and Sinti in Berlin.

RAA is carrying out the federal programme “Living and Learning Democracy” on the level of the land Berlin and thus is closely coaching about 30 Berlin schools as network schools. It also runs an “artists agency” bringing professionals into schools and youth centers. RAA is constantly producing materials on all successful model projects and make them available through our public "mediathek" as well as providing intercultural trainings for teachers, social workers and others.
